I just want to confirm that- are trash bags safe for storing food? I have never done this but in case of emergency can we store food in trash bags

No, trash bags have chemicals that can mix with the food. So, it's not at all a good idea even in an emergency to store food in trash bags. Even. the food safety authorities also agree with the fact that trash bags are non-food safe and cannot be used because the chemicals may get absorbed in the food and will harm you.
