Toor dal is the most popular dal in India. These yellow split peas take little longer to cook than moon and masoor dal. Toor dal is also an important ingredient of most popular south Indian recipe i.e. sambhar. Toor dal can be served with roti or rice equally. See the preparation method for toor dal recipe.

Cumin Seeds (jeera)

Preparation Steps for
Toor Dal Recipe (Pigeon Pea or Tuvar Dal)
|
-
Wash the tuvar (toor) dal properly and pressure cook it with turmeric powder and sufficient amount of water.

When the tuvar dal is cooked, strain it and mash roughly; keep aside.

Heat the ghee in a large pan. When the ghee is hot, add dry red chillies, cumin seeds, and chopped garlic and fry for a minute.

Now add the cooked and mashed dal to the pan with 2 cups of water and salt; cook till the the toor dal starts boiling.

When the tuvar dal starts boiling, then add jiggery (gur) and cook for 4=5 more minutes.

Take tuvar dal out of the flame and let it cool. When cooled, add lemon juice;

Your tuvar dal is ready, Serve hot with rice, roti or chapattis.
