Meettha Tukhra or Shahi Tukhra is a regional dish. Quite popular in most of the muslim countries. It is a sweet dish, made from ingredients which can easily be found at home. The creaminess of the thickened milk, the crunchiness of the the oil fried bread, the nuttiness of the nuts form a brilliant fusion flavors. The sweet is served as dessert on various occasions such as casual parties or even formals, at weddings or meetings. Some people may find the dish too sweet but for others, having a creamy slice of Meettha Tukhra after having some Biriyani is a must!
Ingredients for Meettha Tukhra (Sweet Pieces of Bread) Recipe
  1. Milk - 2 cups
  2. Sugar - 1 cup
  3. Rose Water - 1 tblsp
  4. Bread - 8 slices
  5. Soyabean Oil - 3/4th cup
  6. Lemon Yellow Food Colour - a bit
  7. Almonds and Pistachios, sliced - 1 tblsp
  8. Saffron - for garnish

Preparation Steps for Meettha Tukhra (Sweet Pieces of Bread) Recipe
  1. Boil milk and reduce to 1 cup.
  2. Add ½ cup water to the sugar and make syrup.
  3. Strain the sugar using a strainer.
  4. Add rosewater to the syrup.
  5. Fry the slices of bread in oil till golden brown and crunchy.
  6. Dip the fried bread pieces in the syrup and arrange them on a plate. Let the bread pieces cool down.
  7. Once cool, pour the thickened milk over the bread pieces to cover them. Flip the pieces to make sure both sides are covered with milk.
  8. Sprinkle the bread pieces with rose water and the food colour.
  9. Cover and let it sit in a cool place for about 4-5 hours.
  10. Take the bread pieces out on a dish, sprinkle with the nuts and some saffron.
  11. Serve at room temperature.
