The California roll is also famous as Sushi Roll but today what I am presenting here, is very popular in California so it is also known as “California Roll”. This recipe is fusion dish of traditional Japanese food and fresh and flavorful American ingredients. When we cut this rolls, in cross section we can see layer of rice nori, and then colorful fillings. There are lots of variations of making this roll but among all most famous ingredients in a California roll are crab meat, mayonnaise, and avocado. This final dish is rich in flavor and also very mouthwatering. If you want then you can also use banana or mango in place of avocado. Roasted sesame seeds or tobiko can be sprinkled on it. You can also use different fillings to make California rolls as they are extremely versatile and you can make endless varieties in this.
Ingredients for California Rolls Recipe
  1. Jasmine white rice (or sushi rice) - 1 cup
  2. Rice vinegar - 2 tsp
  3. Sugar - 1 tsp
  4. Avocado slices - 8 slice
  5. Cucumber sticks (peeled cucumber) - 10 slice
  6. Mayonnaise - 2Tbsp
  7. Shredded “crab” meat - 3/4 cup
  8. Nori (seaweed paper) - 4 sheets
  9. Sesame seeds - 2 Tbsp
  10. soy sauce and wasabi - For serving

Preparation Steps for California Rolls Recipe
  1. Wash rice and run it through cold water. Cook rice with 2 cups of water, add rice vinegar and little bit sugar. Cook rice like you usually cook in routine. Cover this cooked rice for 15 minutes.
  2. Cut avocado in slices. Peeled cucumber and remove the seeds from it and cut it in slice. Take shredded meat of crab in one bowl and add mayonnaise in it.
  3. Take a bamboo mat; put a piece of plastic wrap and nori on it.
  4. Wet your hands with water. Take cooked rice and press rice with hand onto one side of the nori.
  5. Shower few sesame seeds on the rice and flick it over.
  6. Make a string of cucumber sticks on it.
  7. Now arrange a line of Hass avocado.
  8. Now equally allocate crab mixture on top of cucumber and avocado. Revolve the mat and gradually squeeze with your hands.
  9. Cut into 8 to 10 bite sized pieces and serve.
 

Additional Tips :

  1. If possible, choose a wet serrated knife for ease of cutting.
  2. Do not press too hard or the filling will squirt out the ends.
  3. If you want cut it before serving.
