Aloo chop is a south asian favorite fried food. It is insanely tasty and easy to make. The aloo chop making process is not very hard and one can make this very easily. Aloo chop is a dish that can be eaten as a snack at evenings, as an appetizer to a meal, as an add on to the main course or even as a patty! The flavors of this item is tongue tickling. Different people like to put in different fillings according to their choice. This recipe is just the basic and the common version. Mothers can give this chop as tiffin for their kids and they will munch away without complains. Since aloo (potato) is a bangladeshi native, this chop is prepared in every other household in bangladesh on an almost regular basis.
Ingredients for Aloo Chop Recipe
  1. Aloo (Potatoes) - 1 kg
  2. Butter - 2 tblsp
  3. Pepper, powdered - 1/2 tsp
  4. Bread crumbs - 1 cup
  5. Eggs - 5
  6. Onions, thinly sliced - 1/2 cup
  7. Green chilies, thinly sliced - 4
  8. Coriander or mint leaves, chopped - 2 tblsp
  9. Salt - to taste
  10. Oil - to fry

Preparation Steps for Aloo Chop Recipe
  1. Boil the potatoes and peel off skin. Take the peeled potatoes in a bowl, add the butter, pepper and salt to it and mash. Separate the mashed potatoes into 16 portions.
  2. Hard boil 4 eggs. Peel of shell and roughly chop them up. Crack the other 1 egg left and beat it with a fork.
  3. In a karai, heat 1 tblsp oil and add the onions. Fry the onions for 8 minutes. Drain off oil. Add this onion to the chopped eggs, along with salt, pepper, green chilies and the coriander leaves. Mix well. Separate the mixture into 16 portions.
  4. Now, take one portion of the mashed potato. Form a ball. With the help of your thumb, make a hollow in the middle of the ball and put in one portion of the egg mixture in it. Use your fingers to gather the edges of the potato to cover the filling to form chops. With the help of your palm, make it of any shape your desire. That is, circular, oval, flat, whichever you like.
  5. Once you have filled all the chops, dip each chop in the beaten egg and then roll it on the bread crumbs to completely cover. Carefully release each chop in hot oil and fry. Serve hot with chutneys or sauces.
 
  • The filling in this recipe is made with eggs, however most people usually like to use keema (minced beef). Keema aloo chop is a favorite.
